About Pamela D. Lloyd

Pamela D. Lloyd was born in Chicago, Illinois, where her parents turned down an offer to sell her to a sock salesman for his entire inventory of two suitcases of socks. When she was two months old, her family moved to Lake City, Florida, where her parents once more turned down an offer for her, this time in exchange for a house. Her parents have admitted that in selfishly refusing this offer they were aware that they would not be able to provide her with the life of luxury the prospective buyers claimed would be her new lot in life. For some strange reason, Pamela finds the first offer the more intriguing of the two; among her writing projects is a story about the child the sock salesman eventually purchased. Pamela's two brothers were both born in Lake City; to the best of her knowledge, her parents received no offers for them and by the time the family moved to El Paso, Texas, when she was three years old, Pamela's true nature as a force of chaos was apparent, so no new offers for her were forthcoming.

Pamela's writing inspirations vary with the moment, but from the time she was a child have included folklore and fairy tales, with a special interest in changelings. For more information about her writing, see her publications.

Growing up in El Paso, Pamela often went with her family to Juarez, Mexico, where they visited glass-blowing factories, museums (a favorite was the Museo de Arte e Historia), went shopping along Avenida 16 de Septiembre, and enjoyed many fine meals. This early experience, coupled with her parents' talk of traveling "someday," left Pamela with a strong desire to travel the world. She has managed only a tiny bit of the extensive travel of which she dreams and she hopes to travel extensively in the future. She adores castles and has visited several, including Eilean Donan castle and the Alhambra. So far, her travels include:

  • The United Kingdom for five months in 1982 and 1983, with her first husband and their infant son; they started their trip when their son was four months old. While in the UK they spent a month in London, three months in Cambridge (with a weekend jaunt that included a stay at a six-hundred-year-old working herb farm and an overnight stay in Wales), and a month in Edinburgh, Scotland (with a weekend trip that included Inverness and the Isle of Skye).
  • Spain, for three weeks in 1988, with her first husband and her two sons, then aged 5 and 2 1/2, where they stayed with her Nicaraguan-born mother-in-law in Almuñecar on the Costa del Sol, but also viseted Grandada, Málaga, and Madrid. Had she confined her stay to the major cities, her USA physician's advice that no vaccinations were needed and it was fine to drink the water would have been correct; however, in the small town of Almuñecar, which still used Roman aqueducts for part or all of its water supply, she contracted typhoid fever, which she considers taking research just a little too far.
  • Manzanillo, Mexico, for a brief stay in 1989 at the Las Hadas resort. "Las Hadas" means, "the fairies." (You may have seen images of this resort, as portions of the movie "10" were filmed there.)

Pamela was divorced from her first husband in 1990 and moved to Tucson, Arizona with her children a few years later. She remarried in 2005 and currently lives in Tucson with her husband, her three step-sons, several dogs, and several cats. Her two sons, now grown, also live in Tucson.
